How well do you know your audience - CRM

Marketing without knowing your audience is like throwing darts in the dark. You might hit something, but chances are, you’ll miss more often than not.
If you don’t understand who your customers are, where they spend their time online, and what they care about, you’re wasting both time and budget. The more you know about your audience, the better your marketing will be. It’s that simple.

Understanding Your Customer Personas

Before you can speak to your audience effectively, you need to know who they are. Customer personas help you do that. These are detailed descriptions of your ideal customers based on real data and insights.

Think about your current customers. What are their interests? Where do they live? What problems do they have that you solve? What social media platforms do they use?

Start by gathering information from your website analytics, pay attention to customer feedback and look through your sales data to look for patterns. Are your customers mostly local businesses? Are they parents looking for specific services?

Once you’ve identified these traits, you can start to create personas that represent different segments of your audience.

Why Segmentation Matters

Not all customers are the same, so treating them as if they are will only dilute your marketing efforts.

Proper segmentation means dividing your audience into groups based on shared characteristics. This allows you to tailor your messaging, making it more relevant and engaging.

Email Marketing

Email is still one of the most effective marketing tools, but only when done right! Otherwise you’ll likely get low engagement rates or worse spam reports.

Instead of sending the same message to everyone, segment your email list. A first-time buyer will respond differently to a loyal customer, split them out to highlight different products and offers to the audience.

Personalised emails typically get better open rates and lead to higher conversions so it’s worthwhile doing the segmentation exercise and spending the time setting up your email lists effectively.

If you’re struggling with managing your customer data, we can help. We can help you determine which data is appropriate to use under GDPR and help you get set up with a CRM system that will record and automatically segment your data so you can use it effectively.

Paid Ad Targeting

When running paid ads, targeting is everything. Platforms like Facebook, Google, and Instagram allow you to set specific criteria, helping your ads reach the right people.

For example, if you know your audience is mostly based in Preston and looking for your services, then you’d focus your ads on that specific location. Or you could take that data and more effectively target new areas to expand and grow your customer base.

The more refined your targeting, the less money you waste on clicks that won’t convert.

Connecting on the Right Social Platforms

Just because a platform exists doesn’t mean your business needs to be on it.

If your audience is active on LinkedIn but not TikTok, don’t waste effort trying to build a presence where it won’t matter. Research where your customers engage the most and focus on those channels.

Attending the Right Events

Events can be a great way to connect with potential customers, but only if they’re the right fit. If your business focuses only on the North West, look for networking events or business expos in the area.

Attending the wrong events means spending time and money with no return and being busy for the sake of it.

Content Creation

Creating content is a great way to attract and engage customers, but it needs to be relevant. Blog posts, videos, and social media updates should speak to your audience’s needs and interests.

Stop Wasting Time and Budget

If you’re not focusing on your audience, you’re wasting resources. Marketing should be about speaking to the right people, in the right way, at the right time.

Take the time to understand your customers, segment them properly, and tailor your approach. Doing this will make your marketing more effective, increase engagement, and help you get better results.

When you know your audience, everything becomes easier. You’ll spend less, get more from your efforts, and build stronger relationships with your customers. That’s what good marketing is all about.
